This is because the project files are very small (my Serial BackPack example is only 87kB) if these backups are starting to build up you can just go and delete earlier ones if you like but I have never had to do that.īigmik Guru Joined: Location: AustraliaPosts: 2486 If you make a major stuff up in your design, it is easy to get back to an earlier version as DEX saves your project after EVERY change you make into a backup directory, so you can just go pick the date/time of a file you know was before your mistake and carry on again from there. You only need to pay if you want further updated versions.ĭEX has an Import of eagle Libraries and PCBs (and I think schematics) so you can load in an existing eagle design and it will convert to AutoTrax DEX format for you.

Basically that means that after the 12 months you can still use any version that you like up to the date of your update expiry. The licensing is a yearly fee ONLY if you want to get later versions. The ELECTRA router is actually quite good but I do have to straighten some tracks about at times (is seems to occasionally do a 90deg bend which I don't like I prefer 45deg.)Īll in all I think it is a decent package especially for the price it is being offered at.

Currently ELECTRA is pretty costly for the full package but they have a free package that needs to be updated every 100 days (still free but that is the terms of the license) that is in built into Autotrax Dex that will allow up to (I think) 250 holes which for just about all of my boards is perfectly OK. The earlier versions of DEX were pretty lame in the autorouter department but that has been dropped, for now, in favour of an ELECTRA interface.

The 3D is going through a major overhaul at the moment and a future version (free download with your 12mth download subscription) is going to have many 1000's of different 3D parts to drag in if you want to add to your design.ģ. But editting and creating your own parts is fairly easy and straight forward with wizard to do some of the harder things. Yes it comes with a library of about 110,000 parts however I often redo my own parts as this library has been gathered over many years and most have plain boxes for the overlay where I prefer a circle or D shape as in a TO-92 transistor. You will note the standard resistors with the zigzag is in there, When you add it you can then select the size, type and value etc of the part that you add to the schematic.Ģ. This screen shot shows the `Parts Ribbon' that I cut in 3 to fit the TBS screen. You can chose from a wide variety of symbols. Does it come with a library of footprint and outlines? Is it an extensive library? Are there libraries on the net that can be used?ġ. In the schematic editor does it insist on using European symbols or can it use US symbols like zig zag resistors. The demo happens to be of my new board that is currently sitting in the cargo hold of the slowest boat from China. To give you a couple of examples of what it can do here is a link to a video clip of the difference between standard 3D and OpenGL. Iliya is always improving this great program, in fact he is currently improving the 3D to be more photo realistic using OpenGL.
It is a FULL package and includes a schematic editor and a 3D visualisation as well. I can fully recommend this program to anybody who is thinking of designing their own PCBs. I have asked Iliya (author and owner of AutoTrax DEX) PCB Design explorer if he would like to make an offer to members of the Back Shed and he has responded.
